Teacher Joy Abaquin
Founding Directress, Child’s Place Learning Centre
Mary Joy Canon-Abaquin is a pioneering educator and advocate for innovative practice and reform in education through the founding and heading of the Multiple Intelligence International School (1996), a progressive international school with programs from preschool to high school (prek-12). The Multiple Intelligence framework of Harvard-based psychologist Dr. Howard Gardner, equips your child for the demands of the 21st century and innovates how they learn to enable them to use their intelligences to make a difference for the world. Teacher Joy, as she is affectionately called, has a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from the Nova Southeastern University, USA. She has a masters degree in Early Childhood Education from Boston University, USA and an undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of the Philippines (Magna Cum Laude). She also took continuing education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Programs in Professional Education.
Our Approach
The Multiple Intelligence student-centered philosophy of the school ensures the holistic development of the child PHYSICAL, INTELLECTUAL, SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL, and MORAL by providing meaningful relationships with teachers, positive home-school connections, a strong & developmentally appropriate curriculum, and basic respect and love for the individual child.
The Reggio Emilia principles incorporated into our programming further support and develop children’s thinking and learning. Each child has an individual development portfolio which documents their learning and development throughout their time at the centre. We focus on identifying your child’s interests, and encourage them to shine in their own unique way.
We believe all children develop confidence, self-worth and a positive self-image as they learn of their uniqueness and of God’s love for them within the framework of basic Christian teachings.
